Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 10/14/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas and Head Coach Tom Coolen announced Tuesday the first changes to the team's training camp roster.

Seven players were waived, including forwards Drew Power, Dustin Claffey, John Hooks, Martin Ravn, and Mike George. Defenseman Yan Ouimet and goaltender Nicholas Krygowski were also released Tuesday.

Additionally, Amarillo claimed Mark Black off waivers from Oklahoma City. The 6'5", 240-pound Alberta native scored two goals during the Blazers' 9-5 win over the Tulsa Oilers last Saturday. Black is also well-known for dropping the gloves: in 28 games last year with Sherbrooke of the LNAH in Canada, Black amassed 150 penalty minutes (an average of 5.4 PIM a game).

Following the team alterations, the Gorillas have 20 players listed on their training camp roster. Coach Coolen must trim the roster down to 19 players by the first game of the CHL regular season for the Gorillas-October 17 at New Mexico.

The Gorillas' first home game is scheduled for Saturday, October 18 against the New Mexico Scorpions at the Amarillo Civic Center. Opening puck drop for the contest is slated for 7:05 PM. Tickets are still available for the home opener; fans can call (806) 242-PUCK (7825) or visit the Gorillas office at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo for more details.
