Amarillo Bulls Tender Defenseman Sean Giles

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls power play has been first in the North American Hockey League this season and they hope they can continue that success in future seasons after inking a special teams defenseman to a tender.

Defenseman Sean Giles became the third Colorado Rampage player to sign a tender with the Amarillo Bulls for the 2014-15 season. Giles joins teammates goaltender Jacob Weatherly and forward JJ Huerena.

Giles has played in 26 games for the Rampage and has been a big part of their special teams. Giles, a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado, has three goals and five assists for eight points in 26 games. All three of his goals have been fired on the power play.

Amarillo Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams said Giles and his teammates are strong in the classroom and will have a bright future on and off the ice.

"Sean will appeal to many of the Division I schools because of his academics," Williams said. "He will help fill the void with Joe Grabowski, Brett Szajner and Stuart Pomeroy moving on. We really like his game, the way he defends in his own end, and moves the puck. He competes hard and will be an excellent addition to the team."

Williams said he doesn't want the tendered players to be concerned about filling those voided areas when they come to Amarillo next season.

"We want them to come in and just relax and play," he said. "We know it's going to take some time with them because some develop quicker than others. The big thing is that we have the guys coming with the right skill set, work ethic and more importantly wanting to be Division I hockey players."

Williams said that Giles, Weather, and Huerena have something in common - they are all winners.

"These players all come from the Rampage, one of the top Tier I hockey programs out there and leading their division," he said. "They all know what it takes to win and I think that is a huge characteristic for us at this level to have guys coming in with that winning attitude. They won't settle for second place and will do whatever it takes for the team to be successful." Sean Giles is excited to be part of the Bulls and thanked Coach Andrew Sherman for his help.

"You work hard every day growing up and to get that call from a junior team, and one so great at moving players on to Division I, by Amarillo is amazing," he said. "They've had a great history of moving players on to the next level I've heard nothing but great things about the organization."

"Coach (Andrew) Sherman has been working with me since I was 14 so there is no way I would be where I am without him."

Giles said that having two of his teammates tender in Amarillo helps in the adjustment period next season.

"It will be a big change moving down to Texas," Giles said. "JJ and Jacob are really good guys off the ice so that will help too."

Rampage Head Coach Andrew Sherman said fans are going to enjoy the strong and steady play of Giles.

"Sean has great vision and sees the ice really well," said Sherman. "He's very hard to play against and defends his own zone well."

The Amarillo Bulls close out a nine game home stand tonight (Saturday) at 7 pm when they host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
