
Tomahawks Fall to Jr. Blues 4-2

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.-Matthew Meier and Shane Bednard each scored, but the Springfield Jr. Blues used a pair of two-goal periods to defeat the Johnstown Tomahawks 4-2 on Saturday night in Springfield, Ill.
The Jr. Blues got on the board first, as Joshua Lammon scored at 7:25 of the first period. Later in the period, Meier got the Tomahawks on the board, taking a pass from Tanner Barnes, and sliding it past Stefanos Lekkas at 11:59. Meier now has five points in his last three games.
Max Kalter regained the lead for the Jr. Blues at 12:46 of the first period, before Kevin Shand extended the lead to 3-1 with a power-play goal at 6:34 of the second period. Lester Lancaster made it a three-goal lead for Springfield with 30 seconds left in the second period.
In the third period, Bednard got the Tomahawks second goal of the night, scoring on a wrist shot from between the faceoff circles at 9:42. Bednard now has multiple points in his last three games, and at least one point in seven of his last ten games.
Lekkas earned the win, stopping 23 of 25 shots. Okicki took the loss, allowing four goals on 27 shots. Jake Moore relieved Okicki prior to the third period, and stopped all eight shots he faced. The Tomahawks went 0-for-2 on the power play, while going 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.
The Tomahawks travel to Port Huron next Friday and Saturday, before returning home to take on Michigan Jan. 24 and 25.
