Altoona Curve Classic High School Baseball Tournament Announcement

ALTOONA - Eight high school baseball programs from throughout Central and Western Pennsylvania as well as West Virginia will participate in the Seventh Annual Curve Classic on Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 18 at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona.

Area schools highlighting the eight-team bracket will be: Bishop Guilfoyle, Cambria Heights, Hollidaysburg, Clearfi eld, Cen- tral, Lewistown, Altoona and Hampshire County, WV.

The Curve Classic will be played over three consecutive days with all quarterfi nal, semifi nal and championship round action being contested at Blair County Ballpark, the home of the Curve, the Double-A Eastern League affi liate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Quarterfi nal round games will be played on Friday (Apr. 16) with the winners advancing to the semifi nal round on Saturday (Apr. 17). The champion of the 2010 Curve Classic will be crowned on Sunday (Apr. 18) at 1:00 p.m. A consola- tion round, which will be played on Saturday, guarantees each participating school at least two games in the tournament.

Friday, April 16 (First Round)

Quarterfi nal #1, 10 AM (Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Bishop Carroll)

Quarterfi nal #2, 12:30 PM (Hollidaysburg vs. Clearfi eld)

Quarterfi nal #3, 3 PM (Central vs. Lewistown)

Quarterfi nal #4, 5:30 PM (Altoona vs. Hampshire County, WV)

Saturday, April 17 (Consolation Games & Semifi nals)

Quarterfi nal Loser #1 vs. Quarterfi nal Loser #2 (10:00 a.m.)

Quarterfi nal Loser #3 vs. Quarterfi nal Loser #4 (12:30 p.m.)

Quarterfi nal Winner #1 vs. Quarterfi nal Winner #2 (3:00 p.m.)

Sunday, April 18 (Championship Game)

Saturday Semifi nal Winners, 1:00 PM

All participants in the tournament will be in attendance and recognized on fi eld during the Altoona Curve's Saturday, April 10 against the Harrisburg Senators (AA - Washington Nationals) at 5:00 p.m.

"It's hard to believe in just eight years how great an event the annual Curve Classic has become," said Curve General Man- ager Rob Egan" who in his fi rst stint with the Altoona Curve was largely responsible for the formation of the event and get- ting it off the ground fl oor. "We're excited that this tournament continues to have great balance with a strong local presence but also welcomes back defending champion Lewistown and fi rst-time participant Hampshire County from West Virginia."

The nine games of the Curve Classic won't be the only important high school baseball action contested at Blair County Ball- park throughout the spring. The ballpark will also play host to both the PIAA District 6 Baseball Championships on June 3 and the PIAA State Baseball Championships June 18.

Admission and parking for the Curve Classic is free. The Curve do, however, ask that fans consider making a small mon- etary donation which will go towards a scholarship in the name of the tournament MVP's school.
