Alouettes Sign Four Draft Picks

Montreal, May 24, 2002 - Montreal Alouettes' General Manager Jim Popp is thrilled to announce that four of the Alouettes' draft picks in 2002, linebacker Josh Jansen, offensive lineman Aaron Fiacconi and defensive linemen Jonathan Landon and Mitch Sutherland, have signed with the team that drafted them.

Jansen (6', 246 lbs.) played his college football with Occidental College and was the team captain for the past three seasons. In 2001, he led his team with an impressive 127 tackles and was fifth of the United States with an average of almost 15 tackles per game. He also recorded 2 interceptions, knocked down one pass and made a sack. He was named on the third All-American team and on the 1st All-Conference team. He is 23.

Fiacconi (6'4", 298 lbs.) is a solid and experienced performer on the offensive line. A team captain in 2001, his third year as a starter, the Sault Ste. Marie native registered 73 tackles, allowed no sacks and anchored a line that started three freshman and a sophomore. He was named on his conference's first All-Star team. He was also awarded the Butsko Award as the team's top offensive lineman. He is 22.

Landon (6'4", 276 lbs.) is a Queen's University product who was drafted in the fourth round, 33rd overall by the Alouettes. The 22-year-old can play on both the offensive and defensive lines. In 1999 and 2000, he made the CIS All-Star team at offensive tackle in addition to being named top offensive lineman. He was also named All-Canadian in 2000.

Sutherland (6'1", 266 lbs.) is an outstanding rush end who provides a legitimate presence on the defensive line. In 2001, he led Alberta with 3 sacks and finished second on the team with 32 defensive tackles. The 2001 Canada West First Team All-Star was also voted the conference's Outstanding Lineman. In 2000, Sutherland made Second Team All-Canadian and 1st Team Canada West All-Star after a season that saw him make 6 sacks and 40 defensive tackles. He is 24.
