November 24, 2021 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - The Canadian Football League announced its 2021 Division All-Stars on Wednesday and no less than seven players from the Montreal Alouettes were selected. Divisional All-Stars were chosen by Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) members as well as CFL head coaches.
William Stanback - Running back (2nd selection)
East Division All Star: 2019, 2021
Stanback received his second nomination in 2021, as he concluded the season atop many categories, including rushing yards as his 1,176 yards put him more than 300 yards ahead of his closest competitor, who played one more game than him. His 1,290 yards from scrimmage are also best in the CFL, as are his 193 carries, his 6.1-yard average per carry and his six games with more than 100 rushing yards. He also scored three rushing touchdowns.
Eugene Lewis - Wide Receiver (2nd selection)
East Division All Star: 2019, 2021
Lewis continued to multiply spectacular and important catches throughout 2021, as he completed the season in third place in the CFL with 964 receiving yards on 62 receptions, on top of scoring nine touchdowns. The 28-year-old maintained his level of play throughout the season, even if three different starting quarterbacks threw him passes. He also threw a 35-yard pass on a trick play.
Jake Winieke - Wide Receiver (1st selection)
East Division All Star: 2021
Wieneke rightfully earned the nickname "Touchdown Jake" in 2021, as he finished atop the CFL with 11 receiving touchdowns. In his second season North of the border, the 27-year-old completed the season with 898 receiving yards on 56 catches, good for fifth in the CFL. His 15.1 yard average per catch also put him fifth in the League.
Kristian Matte - Guard (2nd selection)
East Division All Star: 2019, 2021
Matte was an important cog in an offensive line that allowed the team to finish atop many offensive categories in 2021, including total offensive yards (5,178), points (314), as well as rushing yards (2,023). The offensive line allowed only 35 sacks this season, even if it had to protect three different starting quarterbacks, who all have their own styles.
Landon Rice - Offensive tackle (1st selection)
East Division All Star: 2021
Rice, who was named the Alouettes' Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2021, worked amongst a group that allowed the team to be the only one to reach the 2,000 rushing-yards plateau, finishing the season more than 300 yards ahead of the next team in that category.
David Ménard - Defensive end (1st selection)
East Division All Star: 2021
Ménard had an excellent season, his first playing professionally in his home province, finishing fourth in the league with eight quarterback sacks. He also amassed 18 defensive tackles, including one for a loss. He was named the Alouettes Most Outstanding Canadian and Defensive Player in 2021.
Monshadrik Hunter - Defensive back (1st selection)
East Division All Star: 2021
Hunter completed the season with 44 defensive tackles, on top of registering one quarterback sack and intercepting two passes. He leads the team with ten knockdowns, putting him second in the CFL in that category.
