Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal, June 25, 2012 - The Alouettes announced on Monday the signing of Montreal-born defensive end Ameet Pall to a two-year contract.
Pall (6'0'', 245 lbs.) was the Calgary Stampeders' first pick (fifth overall) in this year's CFL Canadian Draft, but was released following training camp. The 25-year-old Montrealer racked up 32 tackles, including eight for losses as well as three sacks last season for the Wofford College Terriers (NCAA FCS) in a year where he was often double-teamed following a great 2010 campaign.
In 2010, he finished third among Terriers with 60 tackles and led the conference with 12.5 sacks and 22.5 tackles for a loss earning him defensive player of the year in the Southern Conference, as voted by coaches and media. That season, he earned first team All-America honours from the Sports Network as well as second team All-America honours from the Associated Press. He ranked eighth in the nation for sacks per game with 0.96 and for tackles for loss with 1.73. He finished second in the voting for the Buck Buchanan Award, which marks the highest finish ever by a Wofford player.
Pall, who helped the Vanier Cheetahs win the Bol d'Or twice while in CEGEP, completed his college career with 148 tackles. His 23.5 career sacks put him third on the Terriers' all-time list.
