Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

DUNEDIN, FL - Alonzo Gonzalez twirled a two-hit masterpiece in game two of Sunday's doubleheader as the Dunedin Blue Jays (14-22, 46-60) shutout the Palm Beach Cardinals (24-12, 56-50) 2-0 en route to a twin bill split. Derrick Loveless smacked his sixth homer of the season in the sixth inning of a 4-1 game-one loss.

Gonzalez retired the first nine batters he faced in order. The California native tossed five-strong innings before his departure, allowing just two hits. The righty did not issue a walk and struck out two, picking up the win.

Ryan Cook made his Dunedin Blue Jays debut after Gonzalez exited. Cook recorded two outs before giving way to Wil Browning. Browning retired all four batters he faced earning the four-out save, his 14th of the season for Dunedin.

The D-Jays scored both of their runs in the third inning. A pair of errors led to an RBI groundout by Rowdy Tellez and a sacrifice fly by Mitch Nay. That would be all the scoring Dunedin would need in the ballgame.

Palm Beach took game one by a 4-1 final score. The Cardinals plated two runs in the first and two runs in the third inning of that contest. Sean Reid-Foley took the loss and Daniel Poncedeleon earned the win for Palm Beach. Brad Allen was spectacular in his relief appearance of game one, surrendering just two hits over three and a third innings of work. He did not walk a batter and fanned two. Chris Smith made his Dunedin Blue Jays debut firing a perfect seventh, including two strikeouts.

Richard Urena collected three hits on Sunday, two during game one and another in game two.
