Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Alondes Williams broke the Skyforce franchise record for points scored in a game (55) to help push Sioux Falls to a 138-130 victory over the Salt Lake City Stars on Sunday afternoon from the Sanford Pentagon.
Williams shot 21-30 (4-6 3PA), while adding eight rebounds and seven assists. His 55 points beats Scotty Hopson's franchise record of 52 points on 2/24/15 against the Reno Bighorns and is also the highest scoring output in the NBA G League so far in 2023-24. It also marked Williams' second game of 40+ plus points scored this season, as well.
The victory also marked a tie for the best start to the regular season in the NBA G League era for the Skyforce (6-0).
Miami HEAT two-way player Cole Swider added a career tying 37 points on 11-16 FGA (7-11 3PA), 12 rebounds (career-high) and three assists. It marked Swider's first double-double with the Force and the team moves to 4-0 when he scores 30-plus points.
Salt Lake City (1-4) jumped out to a 17-0 run to start the game, but Sioux Falls responded by ending the period on a 22-9 run, but trailed 36-22.
Utah Jazz two-way player Josh Christopher netted 20 points on 6-6 3PA in the second quarter, which helped the Stars build as much as a 26-point lead in the frame. Sioux Falls battled back to cut the lead to 73-55 at halftime.
The Skyforce scored the most points in a quarter since 1/5/18 (51 against Iowa) in the third quarter, as they produced 49 points on 14-22 FGA (6-10 3PA). Williams and Swider each had 17 points on 11-14 FGA to help Sioux Falls flip a 104-99 lead with just 12 minutes remaining.
Williams netted 21 points on 8-9 FGA in the final quarter, as his play helped fend off two lead changes and ties from Salt Lake City. His and Swider's combined 61 second half points outscored the Stars by four (57).
Justin Champagnie added 19 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks in the winning effort. Christopher led Salt Lake City with 34 points, while Jazz assignee Brice Sensabaugh added 28 points.
The Skyforce hits the road on Tuesday for a Western Conference showdown with the Memphis Hustle (2-3), with tip-off slated for 7:00 PM CST.
