Almonte Spins Career-High 7 Frames in Victory

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 26, 2015) - Intimidators starting pitcher Yency Almonte spun a career-long 7.0 innings to pitch Kannapolis past the Lexington Legends, 4-1, on Tuesday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. Almonte gave up a run in the first before keeping the Legends off the board over his final six frames.

Almonte (3-2), whom the White Sox acquired in a February trade with the Los Angeles Angels for Gordon Beckham, matched his career-best with six strikeouts on the night while earning the win. He gave up a run on seven hits and no walks. He has now allowed one run in his last 20.0 innings of work.

Lexington opened the game with three straight singles, including Alfredo Escalera's RBI-hit to drive in Humberto Arteaga for a 1-0 lead.

Kannapolis (21-24) responded with three straight hits to open the home half of the first inning. Eddy Alvarez scored on a Nick Basto double-play ball, and Christian Stringer came home on a Legends error for a 2-1 lead.

Lexington's starting pitcher Nik Stephenson tossed 6.0 strong innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Brad Salgado spun the final two innings for the save (3). Zach Fish added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI-single, and Louie Lechich scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to add to the cushion.

The Intimidators play for a series sweep of the Legends on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. The Intimidators well send RHP Spencer Adams (1-3, 4.60 ERA) to the mound against Lexington's RHP Torey Deshazier (3-3, 3.79).
