Allen takes home first player of the week award as an Argo
October 25, 2005 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Toronto Argonauts News Release
Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate QB Damon Allen for earning CFL Offensive Player of Week.
With first place in the East on the line, the man they call "Pro" took control of his team and led them to the promised land in Montreal. Damon stepped up and delivered what some considered to be the most complete performance of his career. He found open receivers, saw open holes to run the ball and used his veteran instincts to outsmart the Alouettes' defence.
Commented CFL Player of the Week Judge Bob Krouse: "The Argonauts needed a win in Montreal to take first place and the season series. Allen, a clutch player, took control of the game by orchestrating drive after drive which, on almost every occasion resulted in a touchdown or a field goal. Allen has the capability to dominate, yet looks smooth under pressure. Allen has to be considered for Most Outstanding Player."
Allen completed 80% (32 of 40) of his passes for 414 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed 7 times for 56 yards and one touchdown in Toronto's dominating 49-23 win. This is the eighth time in his career that he has been named Offensive Player of the Week, and his first time as an Argonaut.
The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would also like to congratulate LB Kevin Eiben for being named the 1st Runner-Up Defensive Player of Week, DE Jonathan Brown for being named the 2nd Runner-Up Lineman of the Week and K/P Noel Prefontaine for being named the 2nd Runner-Up Special Teams Player of the Week.
The 2004 Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003.
