Allen Nips Thunder 3-2 to Jump Back into First

Allen, TX - Darryl Bootland broke a tie game in the third period to give the Allen Americans (14-5-1) a 3-2 victory over the Wichita Thunder (13-7-2) on Saturday night at the Allen Events Center. Ian Lowe recorded a pair of goals for the Thunder in the losing effort. With the loss, Wichita drops back into second place behind the Americans with the two teams scheduled to meet two more times this month.

Allen scored two quick goals to open up the contest. Trevor Ludwig got the Americans on the board with a power play goal at 2:41. Over a minute later, Anthony Maiani made it 2-0 after he put home a rebound off a shot from Bootland. Wichita cut into the lead with six minutes to go in the period when Lowe took a long wrist shot from outside the Allen zone that got past Aaron Dell and made it 2-1 Allen through the first 20 minutes of play.

In the second, Wichita was able to tie the game at two at the 7:14 mark. Lowe recorded his second of the game on the power play when he came out of the left wing corner along the goal line and powered his way to the front of the net to beat Dell. It was the first power play goal scored by Wichita in their last 18 chances.

Bootland scored the game winner early in the third period with a wrist shot from the right circle that gave the Americans a 3-2 lead. Wichita was unable to find the equalizer and dropped to 1-7-0 all-time at the Allen Events Center.

Wichita had a season-high nine power plays, but were only able to find the back of the net once. Allen went 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
