Quad City Mallards News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - John-Scott Dickson scored what proved to be the game winning goal and added an assist while Podge Turnbull also provided a goal and an assist as the host Missouri Mavericks slipped past the Quad City Mallards 3-2 Saturday night.

The Mavericks scored three straight goals after Mickey Lang tipped in Matt Duffy's drive to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead at 17:12 of the first period.

Missouri tied the score at one when Turnbull jammed the puck in from the side of the net at 3;45 of the second period. Andrew Courtney's blast from the high slot gave the Mavericks a 2-1 lead at 7:48 of the second. Dickson's close range power play goal widened the Missouri lead to 3-1 at 6:37 of the third period.

Dickson's goal loomed even larger after the Mallards pulled goaltender Jimmy Spratt for an extra attacker late in the third period and pulled back within one with Mike Hellyer's blast from the left wing circle with just under a minute remaining. The Mallards, however, were unable to produce a late equalizer.
