Allen Holds off RiverKings in Texas

ALLEN, TX --- Power play goals were costly on Sunday, December 26th, as the Allen Americans defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 2-1 in Central Hockey League play in Allen, Texas.

The Americans took the lead in the first period on a power play goal scored by Justin DaCosta, his fifth of the season, coming nearly nine minutes in for a 1-0 first intermission lead.

There was no scoring in the second period, but the Americans scored the eventual game-winning goal two-and-a-half minutes into the final period on another power play goal, this one coming from Nino Musitelli. His 13th goal of the year came off assists from Erik Adams and Bruce Grahams and gave the Americans a 2-0 advantage.

Mississippi came back late, scoring a power play goal of their own off the stick of Matt Summers, assisted by Nathan Lutz and Louis Dumont at 18 minutes of the third period for the final 2-1 score.

The RiverKings finished 1-for-9 on the power play, while Allen scored twice in eight power play chances. Mississippi also out shot the Americans 29-28.

Mississippi goaltender Larry Sterling (5-5-1) stopped 24 shots on the goal, while Adrien LeMay (9-2-1) made 26 saves for the Americans.

With the loss, the RiverKings are 13-14-1 and 0-2-0 on their current five-game road trip, while Allen improved to 20-5-1 and first place in the Berry Conference standings.

Next action for the RiverKings will be at Fort Wayne this Wednesday night at 6:30 PM Central time against the Komets.

Next home game for the RiverKings will be on Sunday, January 2nd, against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the DeSoto Civic Center. Game time will be at 3:05 PM and the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Memphis will be the game's non-profit MVP.
