Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - After the holiday break, the Rapid City Rush returned to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to take on the Colorado Eagles in front of a sold out crowd on Sunday night. Dave Grimson scored his first two goals of the season, including a late goal to give the Rush hope, but Colorado came away with a 4-2 win.

Riley Nelson began the scoring with his 10th of the season, a powerplay goal at the16:47 mark. The goal was picked up by Eagles captain Riley Nelson who fired a wrist shot past the blocker of Danny Battochio.

The Rush fought back just 3:22 into the second frame on the first goal of the season from Dave Grimson. Grimson scored the powerplay goal when he pounced on a rebound from the left faceoff dot and slapped it home for the 1-1 tie. Colorado answered back just 30 seconds later when Daymen Rycroft converted a rebound chance of his own for his 16th of the season. The Eagles would double the lead less than three minutes later when Brett Thurston blasted home his third of the season from the high slot. The Eagles ended the frame, outshooting the Rush 23-20 and leading the game 3-1.

The third period remained quiet until a Rush goal was slammed in with just 2:38 left in the game. The goal came on a 6-on-4 advantage and was picked up by Dave Grimson for his second tally of the night and season. With Colt King creating a screen, Grimson unloaded a slap shot to the top-right corner, cutting the lead down to one. Looking for the equalizer with the extra attacker on the ice, the Rush gave up and empty-net goal to Riley Nelson who secured the 4-2 final.

The two teams now faceoff in Loveland, CO for a tilt set for Wednesday at 7:05pm.

The Rush will be back in town on December 31st and January 1st at 7:05pm to take on the Wichita Thunder. Tickets are still available for both games.
