GAME RECAPS

FRIDAY, JAN. 15 vs. RPD (L 6-1): The Americans began a stretch of six games in nine days last when they hosted the Rapid City Rush for the first time. The contest was the first faceoff between two of the top teams in the CHL. Rapid City scored the game's first three goals before Nino Musitelli recorded his ninth goal of the season. Any momentum the Americans had after Musitelli's goal was gone when the Rush scored just over two minutes later. Chris Whitley began the game in net, and Charlie Effinger replaced him for the third period.

SATURDAY, JAN. 16 vs. WIC (W 4-2): Allen hosted Wichita for the first time at the Allen Event Center after Charlie Effinger shut out the Thunder in their previous contest 3-0. In a close game, the Americans played catch-up before taking the lead off of a goal from Nino Musitelli at the beginning of the third period. Colton Yellow Horn shot Jarret Lukin's rebound into the net to the game at one in the opening frame, and Kurtis Dulle tied the game at two goals apiece 26 seconds after the Thunder took the lead in the second period. Goalie Charlie Effinger made 22 saves in the game. Justin Bowers registered an empty-net goal after a late surge from the Thunder to bring the final score to 4-2.

UPCOMING GAMES

MONDAY, JAN. 18 vs. ARZ at 1:00 p.m.: Arizona visits Allen for the second and final time this season. Allen opened its inaugural season with two wins over the Sundogs and beat them at home Nov. 19. The Sundogs are 13-20-3 (29 points). Defenseman Jordie Benn and forward Justin Bowers each have 4 points in the season series with Arizona.

THURSDAY, JAN. 21 @ MIZ at 7:05 p.m.: In the first meeting of the CHL's expansion teams, Allen looks for a victory over the Northern Conference team in its only road game of the week. The Missouri Mavericks are 17-16-3 (37 points). The contest will be the Americans' first of three in three straight nights.

FRIDAY, JAN. 22 vs. AMA at 7:30 p.m.: The Americans host Amarillo for the first time this season in the first meeting for the two teams. Amarillo is 15-17-6 (36 points) and sits sixth in the Southern Conference.

SATURDAY, JAN. 23 vs. BOS at 7:30 p.m.: Allen hosts Bossier-Shreveport for the second time this season. The last time the clubs met, the Americans won in a shootout at the Allen Event Center. Prior to that, the Americans won 2-1 Oct. 23 on their season opening road trip. The Mudbugs are 18-13-4 (40 points) and hold third place in the Northern Conference.

Leading Lukin: After the Americans lost to Rapid City, captain Jarret Lukin was flying all over the ice in Saturday's contest against the Wichita Thunder. His play directly resulted in the first two goals. He ended the game +2 with two assists and was named second star of the game.

Must Have Musitelli: Forward Nino Musitelli continues to produce results for the Americans. He is on a three-game point streak, scoring two goals and two assists in the span. He had the lone goal in the contest versus the Rush and scored the game-winning goal against Wichita Saturday night.

Bowers Go-To Man on Power Play: Alternate captain Justin Bowers is third in the league in power play goals with eight in 35 games. He leads the Americans in scoring and is fifth in the league in scoring. He has 16 goals and 30 assists to make 46 points.

Kaufman Continues to be Among Plus/Minus Leaders: Defenseman Chris Kaufman is third in the league in plus/minus and second among defensemen with +19 in 26 games. Kaufman has 10 points for the Americans this season (4 goals, 6 assists).

Whelan's Return: Rookie Tobias Whelan returned to the lineup Jan. 15 after being out since Dec. 26. Even though he didn't score in last weekend's contests, he was +3 in the 4-2 victory over Wichita. He is tied for second most goals among rookies with 11 in 29 games and leads the first-year players with three shorthanded goals.

All-Star Americans: Both Allen alternate captains were named to the CHL All-Star Team for the game that took place Wednesday, Jan. 13. Justin Bowers was voted to the starting lineup, and Bruce Graham was named a reserve. It was the first CHL All-Star Game for both forwards in their first seasons in the league. Each American tallied an assist in the talent showcase.

Roster Moves: Jan. 15 Mick Berge and Sean Perkins were placed on 14-day IR, and Kurtis Dulle and Tobias Whelan returned to the lineup.
