At Missouri 5, RiverKings 4 (Saturday, January 16th, 2010)

Missouri's Tyler Kindle scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes to play in a see-saw third period that had the RiverKings come back to tie the game on two occasions in the final frame. Kevin Truelson scored a goal and added an assist on the night for Mississippi. Anders Strome, Louis Dumont, and Ryan Campbell also scored goals for the RiverKings. Kevin Beech suffered his third regulation time loss of the year with a 21-save performance. Mississippi scored once on the power play in six opportunities and out shot the Mavericks 34-26.

MISSOURI: The RiverKings this week play games seven and eight in the eleven-game season series with the expansion Mavericks. This weekend's schedule in Southaven will be the final appearances of the regular season for Missouri, with three more meetings set for Missouri before the year is done. Mississippi's record against the Mavericks this season is now 3-3-0 for six points, while Missouri has a 3-2-1 mark for seven points. After this weekend's slate of games, the RiverKings next meet the Mavericks in Independence on February 13th.

MISSISSIPPI LEADERS vs. MISSOURI: Bobby Chaumont and Louis Dumont lead the RiverKings in points against Missouri with eight each. Chaumont also leads the team in goals scored with five, while Dumont has six assists against the Mavericks and is +4 in games against the Mavericks. Kevin Truelson has scored two power play goals against Missouri this season, while Ryan Campbell has added a shorthanded marker. Chaumont and Truelson have scored two of the team's three game-winning goals this year in the season series. Darrell Stoddard and Adam Smyth each have taken 26 minutes in penalty minute time against Missouri this year.

MISSISSIPPI GOALIES vs. MISSOURI: Kevin Beech has a record of 2-2-0 against the Mavericks with a 3.53 GAA and a save percentage of.856. Tim Boron is 0-1-0 against Missouri with a 5.08 GAA and a save percentage of.800.

MAVERICKS LEADERS vs. MISSISSIPPI: Jeff Christian and Nick Sirota each has seven points against the RiverKings this season. Christian, Sirorta, and Simon Watson each have scored three times against Mississippi, while Christian, Sirota, Tommy Lange, and Mike Burgoyne each have four assists. Bret Tyler and Derek Pallardy each are +5 against the RiverKings. Sirota, Watson, Jeff MacDermid, and Tyler Kindle each have scored power play goals in contests against Mississippi, and Brett Hammond has scored a shorthanded goal. Lange, Tyler, and Kindle have Missouri's game-winning goals against the RiverKings. MacDermid has scored the first goal of the game on two occasions this season.

MAVERICKS GOALIES vs. MISSISSIPPI: Alexandre Vincent has a record of 3-1-0 against the RiverKings this season, a 2.75 GAA and a save percentage of.914. Mike Gorman has a mark of 0-1-0, having played just 1:35 of a contest against Mississippi, but being charged with the loss.

NOTES TO KNOW: Last Saturday night, RiverKings bench boss Kevin Kaminski coached in his 100th contest behind the Mississippi bench. In 100 games, the second-year RiverKings' head coach has a record of 61-32-7. Kaminski is also seven games away from coaching 500 games as a professional head coach.

Mississippi is 4-3-1 against expansion franchises in the Central Hockey League this season. Against Allen, the RiverKings hold a 1-0-1 record and are now 3-3-0 against Missouri.

This weekend's schedule against Missouri begins a four-game home stand for the RiverKings. After the two games this weekend, Mississippi hosts Rapid City for two contests which will include the annual "Face Off Field Trip" school day contest for children at 10:05 AM. Mississippi completes the home stand against the Rush on Thursday, January 28th, then will play their first-ever contest at Wichita's new Invest Bank Arena in downtown Wichita on Friday, January 29th. Next weekend ends with the RiverKings playing the Oilers in Tulsa on Saturday, January 30th.

At home, the RiverKings have a 10-6-2 record for 22 of the team's 38 standings points. Last year, Mississippi was 24-7-1 for 49 points on its way to the Northeast Division championship. The RiverKings' last home victory came January 8th against Odessa (3-2).

Against the Northern Conference this season, Mississippi sports a record of 11-13-3 for 25 points. The last Northern Conference win came at Tulsa on January 2nd (5-3).

Last Saturday's loss is the third straight losing effort for the RiverKings, now 0-2-1 in the team's last trio of games. That equals the team's longest winless streak of the year.

When scoring first, the RiverKings have a record of 12-4-2.

Mississippi won its first overtime game of the season on New Year's night against Missouri, improving its overtime record to 1-3.

The RiverKings lost its first shootout game of the year last Saturday night against Allen, giving Mississippi a 2-1 shootout record for the season.

The six goals scored last Friday night by Missouri were the most scored against the RiverKings since a seven-goal outburst by Rio Grande Valley in a 7-3 Mississippi loss on December 20th. The seven goals are the most scored against the RiverKings in one game this season.

Kevin Truelson's power play goal in the second period of Saturday night's game at Missouri was the first RiverKings' extra man goal in 13 consecutive periods (including one overtime period). Mississippi had done a stretch of 0-for-17 power play before Truelson's red-lighter at 2:26 of middle session.

The last time a RiverKings' opponent scored more than one power play goal in a game was on December 20th at Rio Grande Valley (7-3 RGV win). The ten-game streak has Mississippi at 5-for-37 on the penalty kill.

At home, Mississippi has scored 14 power play goals in 106 chances, a percentage of 13.2%.

Mississippi is 16-of-94 on the penalty kill at home for a percentage of 83.0%.

Three of the RiverKings' six shorthanded goals scored have come at home, while two of the five shorthanded goals allowed have been on home ice.

The RiverKings have a scoring average of 3.17 goals per game and the scoring defense average is 3.36 goals per game.

The RiverKings' have won three games each from Missouri (3-2-0) and defending CHL champion Texas (3-0-0) this season.

The RiverKings' 22 shots on goal in the third period of its October 25th 4-3 loss to Wichita is a league season high.

In Friday night contests, the RiverKings have a record of 7-4-2 for 16 points.

On Saturday night, Mississippi has a record of 6-5-1 for 12 points.

Mississippi has scored six shootout goals in 13 attempts for a percentage of.462.

The RiverKings have only allowed 28.97 shots on goal against per game this year.

At home, Mississippi has a 6-0-1 record when ahead after two periods, but is winless (0-6-0) when trailing after forty minutes of play.

In one goal games at home, the RiverKings are 6-3-2 for the season.

Mississippi has not lost in regulation at home in the team's last three games, a streak dating back to January 1st, a mark marred only by Allen's shootout victory on January 9th.

PLAYER UPDATE

1-Kevin Beech took the loss in net for the RiverKings in Saturday night's contest at Missouri, giving him a record of 6-3-2 for the season. Beech is winless (0-1-1) in his last two decisions, after winning three in a row between a New Year's night win at home against Missouri and the January 8th victory at home against Odessa. In January games, Beech has a record of 3-1-1, a 3.14 goals-against-average, and a save percentage of.886.

2-Adam Smyth leads the team in penalty minutes with 135. He also leads the team in major penalties with 15. In games against Missouri, Smyth has one goal scored.

3-David Simoes is second on the team in major penalties with 13 and leads Mississippi defensemen in penalty minutes with 92. Simoes took five minors in one game on November 3rd against Texas. Against the Mavericks, Simoes has one goal and two assists and in January games has one assist.

8-Nathan Schwartzbauer tops RiverKings defensemen in shooting percentage at.158 (3 goals, 22 shots on goal). Schwartzbauer scored his first RiverKings' goal at Missouri Friday night and has two goals in the month of January.

15-Anders Strome scored his second straight goal against Missouri in as many nights last Saturday night. Strome's two goals as a Mississippi forward have both come against the Mavericks.

16-Louis Dumont scored four goals in one game on December 4th against Colorado. Dumont's goal in Saturday's tilt at Missouri was his 400th career professional goal and gives him 1101 career professional points.

18-Ryan Held leads the team in points with 37. Against Missouri, Held has two goals and four points this season and in January games has one goal and nine points.

19-Matt Summers earned an assist in Saturday's game at Missouri, his 15th assist of the season for 22 points. The assist was his first point since a goal scored in the January 9th shootout loss to Allen and his first assist since getting two against Odessa on January 8th. Against Missouri, Summers has no goals and five assists. In January games, Matt has two goals and six assists.

37-Ryan Campbell scored the RiverKings fourth goal on Saturday night in Missouri, his 14th of the season for 33 points. The goal was also Campbell's first since netting one on January 9th against Allen. Campbell has scored three goals and has six points against Missouri and in January has scored five goals for seven points.

44-Kevin Truelson had the RiverKings' only multi-point effort of the night Saturday at Missouri, scoring a goal and adding an assist for a two-point night. It marked his first multi-point performance as a RiverKings' player. The goal was Truelson's first since a red-lighter at Tulsa on January 2nd. Kevin has two goals and an assist against Missouri and has scored three goals for five points in January contests.

55-Derek Landmesser leads the RiverKings' blue liners in points with 26. Landmesser also leads the roster in power play assists with 13 and is 2-for-3 in shootout opportunities. Landmesser notched an assist Saturday night at Missouri, his 19th of the season for 26 points. It marked his first points since getting a pair of assists against Odessa on January 8th. Derek has one goal and four assists against Missouri this season and has two goals and five assists in January games.

87-Darrell Stoddard took a major penalty against Missouri Saturday, giving him a total of 94 PIMS for the year. Stoddard has taken 21 penalty minutes in his last three games.
