
Akeson Scores Game-Winning Goal in 4-3 Win

The Kitchener Rangers' Jason Akeson scored the game-winning goal just past the midway mark of the second period in a 4-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves.
A point shot by Charlie Dodero put the Wolves up 1-0 by 1:10 of the first period. Rangers' Gabriel Landeskog answered back to tie the game at 1-1 when he deflected a Ryan Murphy shot at 3:25 on the power play. The remainder of the first was scoreless.
Jerry D'Amigo skated down the wing and scored off a wrist-shot at 4:57 of the second period to put the Rangers up 2-1. Alex Racino replied for the Wolves with a power play goal at the midway mark. Less than a minute later, Jamie Doornbosch netted a slap shot from the blueline past Sudbury netminder Jacob Riley and restored the Rangers one goal lead. Seconds following, Akeson buried a shot top shelf to make it 4-2 Rangers. The Wolves' Justin Sefton tightened the gap after netting a one-timer at 17:09. The period ended with Sudbury down by one goal (4-3).
The third period was scoreless.
The Rangers travel to Mississauga for a 2:00pm Family Day game versus the St. Michael's Majors on Monday, February 21st.
