Texas AirHogs News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs walked off 4-3 winners at AirHogs Stadium Wednesday, snapping a 9-game losing streak behind a gutsy performance from RHP Matt Shepherd and a game-winning single by Michael Hur. The team will go for the series victory tomorrow at AirHogs Stadium. Shepherd lasted into the 7th, gutting out an impressive performance against one of the most high-octane offenses in the league. His bats built him a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Leon Byrd led off with a double and scored on a groundball by Brian Bistagne. Shepherd stranded 7 over the first 3 frames, surrendering 2 runs in the 3rd but keeping the contest close.

After Christian Stringer tagged Shepherd for an RBI double with 2 outs in the top of the 6th, the AirHogs found themselves trailing 3-1. Devon Rodriguez led off the bottom of the 6th vs. Wichita starter Tim Brown with his first triple of the season and came in a batter later on a sac fly by Byrd. Cody Lenahan then went deep off Brown to right field for his 6th homer of the season to tie the game at 3.

AirHogs relief man Cody Culp induced a key double play in the 7th and stranded a man in scoring position in the 8th to hold the tie. Alan Oaks stranded a man in scoring position in the top of the 9th to give the AirHogs a chance to walk off winners.

Cory Morales, Michael Valadez and Michael Hur would deliver vs. Wichita reliever Fabian Roman in the bottom of the 9th. Morales drew a 5-pitch walk with 1 out, and Valadez moved him to 3rd with a single. Hur then became the hero with a base hit of his own to right field to score Morales and seal a 4-3 victory.

Oaks picked up his 2nd win, while Roman suffered his 1st loss. The AirHogs (21-37) and the Wingnuts (38-20) meet in the series finale tomorrow at 7:05. RHP Cody Hebner is expected to start for the AirHogs.
