St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints have led the American Association in home runs for most of the season and it's only fitting two of their top home run hitters will take their place in the Select Heartland Chevy Dealers Home Run Derby on August 1 at CHS Field. Outfielder Alonzo Harris, who currently has 12 long balls and first baseman Angelo Songco, with 11, will be two of the eight representatives in The Derby.

The home run derby will be made up of the top eight home run hitters from the American Association and the Can Am League. The players that are scheduled to appear in the home run derby are: Burt Reynolds (Texas AirHogs) who leads both leagues in home runs with 19, Josh Mazzola (Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks) -15, Art Charles (New Jersey Jackals) - 15, Alonzo Harris (St. Paul Saints) - 12, Angelo Songco (St. Paul Saints) - 11, Marcus Nidiffer (Rockland Boulders) - 11, Curt Smith (Lincoln Saltdogs) - 11 and Denis Phipps (Laredo Lemurs) - 10.

Each player will get 10 outs with each ball that isn't a home run counting as an out. Each home run after the ninth out will be a "money ball" and counted as two home runs. The first round all eight hitters will compete against each other with the top four moving on to the semi-final. In the semi-final the players will be seeded based upon number of home runs from the first round with the top seed taking on the number four seed and two vs. three. Any ties will be broken by regular season home runs. The winner of each semi-final round will meet for the championship and, once again, each player will get 10 outs.

The Select Heartland Chevy Dealers Home Run Derby will take place as part of All-Star Monday and will go from 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and will be televised on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in the Twin Cities area, and streamed live on americanassociationbaseball.tv.
