Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
Grand Prairie, Texas - With one week to go before the Grand Prairie AirHogs' inaugural home opener, the club will be holding a ceremony to unveil the signage identifying the team's new stadium as "QuikTrip Park at Grand Prairie." The event will take place outside the park at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 12.
Located at Lone Star Park, QuikTrip Park at Grand Prairie promises to be one of the finest facilities in professional baseball. The park includes permanent seating for 5,445 fans, a 6,000 square-foot sports bar and restaurant beyond the left-field fence, a cigar bar, a swimming pool overlooking the right-field wall, and a 17,000 square-foot Wide World of Parks Kids Zone, which includes a rock-climbing wall, a miniature golf course and a wiffle-ball field, among other attractions. In addition to the AirHogs' 48 home games during the regular season, numerous other concerts, festivals and community activities will be held at the stadium throughout the year. The grand opening for the park will take place on Friday, May 16, when the AirHogs face the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:05 p.m.
The AirHogs recently announced a ten-year stadium naming-rights deal with the QuikTrip Corporation of Tulsa, Okla. QuikTrip operates nearly 500 gasoline and convenience stores in nine states, including over 50 in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, with concentrations in other major markets such as St. Louis, Phoenix, Kansas City and Atlanta. Fortune magazine listed the corporation as No. 28 in its "100 Best Companies to Work For" in 2008, QuikTrip's sixth consecutive year on the list.
"With the season rapidly approaching, we're putting the finishing touches on our outstanding new facility," AirHogs president Mark Schuster said. "We're excited to have QuikTrip on board as our stadium naming-rights sponsor, and we're looking forward to letting the region's baseball fans know that QuikTrip Park at Grand Prairie is our home."
This week, the AirHogs started playing in their first-ever series, on the road against the St. Paul (Minn.) Saints. The club plays in the American Association, one of North America's preeminent independent leagues. The AA consists of ten member clubs throughout the central United States. Over 1.3 million fans attended American Association games last season. QuikTrip Park at Grand Prairie is one of over 35 facilities built for independent baseball since its reemergence in 1993.
