AirHogs Set New Franchise Mark with 10th Straight Victory

POMONA, N.Y. -- The Grand Prairie AirHogs scored in each of the first six innings on Tuesday night and got eight solid innings from John Brownell to easily pull away from the Rockland Boulders at Provident Bank Park, winning 9-3 to set a new franchise-best winning streak with their 10th straight win.

Keanon Simon got the attack started early with a single on the second pitch of the game by Julian Sampson (3-2). He then stole second on the next pitch and went to third on a wild pitch, before scoring on Brian Myrow's sacrifice fly. Andres Rodriguez then doubled the lead by smashing a two-out home run off the scoreboard in left field to give Grand Prairie (21-10) a 2-0 advantage.

A two-out plunking of David Thomas came back to hurt Sampson in the third, as Yasutsugu Nishimoto followed that with a triple between the diving centerfielder Chris Valencia and leftfielder Jonathan Smith to make it 3-0.

Bryan Frichter led off the third with his first AirHogs home run of 2012 over the left field bleachers to make it a four-run game, and Nishimoto singled in another run in the fourth and Trent Lockwood doubled in one more in the fifth.

The AirHogs got two in the sixth after Nishimoto picked up his third hit of the game and Simon knocked him in and went on to score on a wild pitch.

It was not until the seventh that Sampson got a shutout inning, as he allowed at least one hit in all of his frames, taking one for the tired Boulders bullpen by throwing 127 pitches, allowing eight runs (all earned) on 11 hits and two walks while picking up a lone strikeout.

But the AirHogs got another run off reliever MacKenzie King on a Greg Porter single in the eighth to finish their big offensive night.

Meanwhile, Brownell (5-1) retired the first seven Boulders before giving up a single to Orlando Mercado, and did not give up a run until Ryan Scoma's first-pitch, opposite-field home run leading off the fifth.

The righty was walked two in the sixth, but he got Keith Brachold on a fielder's choice out and struck out Ryan Mollica to end the threat. He did give up two more runs to the Boulders (13-16) on a pair of RBI doubles by Matt Nandin in the seventh and ninth, but threw 123 pitches to get his third complete game of the season.

Notes: Nishimoto picked up his second four-hit game of the year with a 4-for-5 day...All nine AirHogs had a hit, scored a run or drove in a run, with five players picking up at least two hits...The AirHogs' previous nine-game winning streak was from May 24-June 3 last season...Scoma scored all three Rockland runs and he and Nandin drove in all three.
