Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
Fargo, ND -- Sioux City starting pitcher Jason Jarvis pitched a complete game shut out to lead the Explorers to a 6-0 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on June 19, 2012 at Newman Outdoor Field.
Fargo-Moorhead had their best opportunity to take an early lead in the second inning with two outs. The RedHawks began a two-out rally with a Buddy Sosnoskie single, a Ryan Stovall double, and a hit by pitch that put Todd Jennings on first to load the bases. However, Jarvis got Aharon Eggleston to hit a 2-0 groundball to second baseman Mike Murphy to end the threat.
Jarvis and Fargo-Moorhead starter Aaron Shafer dueled early before the Explorers bats came alive.
The Explorers tagged Shafer with one run in the fourth and two runs in the second to give Sioux City a 3-0 lead through five. The score would remain the same until the seventh.
Sioux City picked up three runs on four hits in the seventh off of RedHawks relievers Joe Harris and Kyle Dahman before Daniel Morari came in to pick up the last out of the inning. Kris Sanchez picked up an RBI double for Sioux City in the inning while Brandon Newton, Michael Lang, and Ray Serrano picked up singles.
The RedHawks wouldn't be able to muster up anymore offense off of Jarvis, who gave up only three hits after the second inning of the game. Jarvis (3-3) pitched his second complete game of the season, giving up seven hits, walking two, and striking out three batters.
Aaron Shafer (1-4) picked up the loss giving up three earned runs on six hits in five innings of work.
The RedHawks (13-18) snapped a season high four-game winning streak with the loss. Fargo-Moorhead's Aharon Eggleston led the team at the plate batting 2-for-4 while Stovall had the only extra base hit on the night.
Sioux City had four players with multi-hit games. Newton went 3-for-5 with two runs, Lang went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Michael Bisenius went 2-for-3.
The RedHawks and Explorers conclude their three-game series tomorrow night at 7:02 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
