WICHITA, KS - The Amarillo Sox allowed four first inning runs to the Wichita Wingnuts while the Wichita pitchers handled the Amarillo offense for a 7-1 win at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.
Sox starter Chuck Lofgren (1-2) went seven innings and allowed five runs off four hits and walked six batters. Wichita reliever Nick Schreiber (1-0) got the win, going five strong in relief and allowing the only Sox run of the game.
The Wingnuts took the lead in the first as Ryan Khoury walked to lead off, stole second and scored on a Jake Kahaulelio RBI single. Following a John Rodriguez walk, CJ Ziegler hit a three-run homerun for a 4-0 lead.
The Sox got their only run in the fifth as Alberto Espinosa hit a solo homerun. Wichita responded with a sacrifice fly from Steve Carrillo to put the lead back to five.
Ziegler hit another homerun, this time a two-run shot in the eighth for a six-run lead. The Sox would only manage three hits the whole game to fall by a 7-1 score.
