Jarvis Goes Distance in 6-0 X's Win

June 19, 2012 - American Association (AA)
Sioux City Explorers News Release

Fargo, ND-----Jason Jarvis pitched a complete game shutout as the Explorers defeated Fargo-Moorhead Tuesday 6-0. The shutout, the fourth the X's pitching staff has thrown this season, came one night after the Explorers were shutout by the Red Hawks. It was the second complete game by Jarvis this season.

The righthander got out of trouble in the first inning when he got Nic Jackson to hit into an inning ending double play with runners at first and third. Then in the second inning after retiring the first two batters, Fargo-Moorhead loaded the bases, but Jarvis got Aharon Eggleston to ground out to end that threat. After that it was basically smooth sailing for Jarvis as he retired 20 of the next 26 batters to hurl the shutout.

Offensively, the Explorers pounded out 11 hits, led Brandon Newton with three hits, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. Michael Lang, Kris Sanchez and Mike Bisenious also had two hits apiece for the Explorers.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Sioux City while Fargo-Moorhead had their four-game winning streak broken.

The final game of the three-game series will be played Wednesday at 7:05 with the Explorers opening up a four-game series at Lewis and Clark Park on Thursday against Central Division leading Wichita.
