SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The AirHogs opened their 3-game set vs. Sioux City with an impressive 4-2 win Friday night at Lewis and Clark Park. Brian Bistagne went deep and scored twice to power the victory.
Sam Martin got his first start since May 29th, and the Little Elm, TX native was sharp, facing a maximum of 4 in 5 of 6 innings. He struck out the side in the bottom of the 1st after his bats gave him an early lead on an RBI single by Austin Gallagher in the top half.
The AirHogs added to the lead with a 2-out solo homer by Bistagne off Sioux City starter Cody Forsythe in the bottom of the 2nd. The longball was the 6th of the year for Bistagne and the 38th of the year for the team.
Martin would allow 2 runs on 3 extra base hits in the bottom half of the 3rd. But after the Explorers tied the game at 2, he settled down nicely, stranding a man in scoring position in the 3rd and facing the minimum in the 4th to the 6th.
His team rebuilt the advantage on a sacrifice fly by Juan Sanchez that scored Bistagne in the top of the 6th. The team added another in the 8th on the second RBI by Sanchez, who knocked in Michael Hur with a base hit.
David Russo, Alan Oaks and Carlos Misell combined to face just 10 over the last 3 innings to seal the game. Martin picked up his first win, while Misell, who pitched a scoreless bottom of the 9th, picked up his 2nd save in 3 days and his 3rd overall this season.
The AirHogs (12-16) meet the Explorers (13-14) tomorrow once again at 7 pm. RHP Palmer Betts is expected to start for the AirHogs.
