AirHogs Notch First Home Victory

Grand Prairie, Texas - In the second game of their first home series, the Grand Prairie AirHogs earned their first home victory, 7-2, against the Wichita Wingnuts. In the top of the second inning, Wichita third baseman Mike Thompson hit the first homerun of the game giving the Wingnuts the 1-0 lead.

The AirHogs came back in the bottom of the second ready to answer. Designated hitter Derek Nicholson got things going, ripping fly to left field to grab the single. Catcher J.B. Tucker came up to bat next and followed his lead with a single to left field advancing Nicholson to second. First baseman Billy Munoz saw a chance and took it with a sacrifice fly to right field advancing Nicholson to third. Edwin Maldonado came up clutch, hitting a single to center field that brought in Nicholson for the AirHogs first run. Shortstop Paul Bartolucci brought Tucker and Maldonado home with a single to right, advancing Carter to third. With the AirHogs up 3-1, Espinosa came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly, giving the team their fourth run of the game. With the bases loaded in the third inning, Grand Prairie went back to work. Munoz was hit by a pitch bring Holder home for another AirHogs score. With the bases still juiced, Carter hit a base hit to center bringing Nicholson and Tucker home that gave the AirHogs two more runs on the board to build their lead to 7-1. Wichita got one more run in the top of the sixth inning. Wingnuts left fielder Blake Gailen came up with a three bagger to right field. He was brought home by Chris Colton, giving the Wingnuts their final run. Kieran Mattison (1-0) went six innings strong for the AirHogs, surrendering five hits on two runs with four strike outs. Demetri White (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Wichita. He surrendered seven runs on seven hits with three strike outs.
