Texas AirHogs News Release

AMARILLO, Texas - The AirHogs won their 3rd straight and clinched a series win Tuesday at Potter County Memorial Stadium, besting the Saints by a final of 11-8. Juan Sanchez went deep in the contest, and Devon Rodriguez finished 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs to help the team stay perfect in Amarillo.

RHP Palmer Betts got the ball to start and got off on an excellent note. He went 3 up, 3 down with 3 strikeouts in the top of the 1st. His offense immediately built him a lead in the bottom half, tagging Saints starter Alec Crawford for 5 runs on 4 hits. Austin Gallagher, Rodriguez, KJ Alexander and Brian Bistagne all picked up RBIs. Rodriguez drove in 2 on his team-high 7th double of the season.

After the Saints got 2 back on RBI doubles by 2B Tony Thomas and SS Mike Gilmartin, Sanchez went off for his 3rd home run of the year, a 3-run shot to score himself, Bistagne and Michael Hur. The 4th inning blast was quickly followed by another Rodriguez RBI to extend the lead to 9-2.

The Saints did not go quietly. They pulled as close as 9-6 on a 2-run inside-the-park home run by RF Breland Almadova in the 7th. But Austin Gallagher would put the game out of reach in the bottom of the 8th with a 2-RBI single that scored Bistagne and Will DuPont. Gallagher finished with 3 hits and 3 RBI.

Betts, who struck out 6 while allowing 4 runs over 6 innings, picked up his 2nd win of the year, while Crawford, who allowed 9 runs over 4 innings, suffered his 2nd loss. The AirHogs offense has gone off for 23 runs and 28 hits so far in the series. Their 12 runs in Game 1 and 11 runs in Game 2 are the 2 highest run totals for the offense this season.

The teams will finish the 3-game set tomorrow at Potter County Memorial. The AirHogs (9-10) will go for their first sweep this season behind RHP Matt Shepherd while the Saints (12-8) will look to salvage a game behind RHP Mark Hamburger. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.

A live radio broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.

The AirHogs welcome the Wichita Wingnuts to Potter County Memorial after they conclude play with the Saints Wednesday. Ticketing information for the entire week-long homestand in Amarillo is available at airhogsbaseball.com.
