Los Angeles Aftershock News Release
Los Angeles, CA. LA College Southwest has seen three great ball games in the past week and this weekend's game between LA and Orange County was the best of the bunch. Orange County raised its record to 2-0 with a 111-109 come from behind win over the 1-2 Aftershock in ABA action.
Matt Houser was exceptional off the bench, but it was Ronell Mingo and Everett Ratleff that got the Buzz off to a great start with 18 first quarter points. Olden Polynice got the Aftershock back into things with a 7 point, 7 rebound first quarter effort. The Buzz led 32-26 after one period.
Houser then sent a message of things to come with 8 second quarter points for OC. Darwin Carter and Nick Sheppard combined with Scott Freymond for 24 second quarter points as the Aftershock cut the Buzz lead to 58-56 at halftime.
Giuliana Mendiola started the third quarter for Los Angeles and the league's only female player sparked a 19-10 run that gave the Aftershock a 75-68 lead. Mendiola scored on a jumper, had two steals, an assist to Nick Sheppard for a lay-up and a rebound in her 8 minutes of play. Jason Braxton, AJ Diggs and Sheppard held fort for the Aftershock, but Matt Houser scored 10 points in the quarter. Los Angeles led 87-84 after three periods.
The final period was back and forth with missed free throws and clutch three point baskets highlighting the play. Freymond had two three point baskets and Rock Lloyd had 6 points for LA, but it was a huge three pointer by Rob "Sik Wit It" Kennedy that gave the Buzz the lead. Houser controlled the final minutes with two baskets and five free throws, the final two providing the final margin of victory for the Buzz with 24 seconds to play. Houser finished with 29 points and 7 rebounds while Mingo added 20 points and 7 boards. Freymond led the Aftershock with 19 points off the bench while Sheppard added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Olden Polynice also added a double double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals.
