Niagara Daredevils silence the Sound

November 14, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Niagara Daredevils News Release

St. Catharines, ON. The ABA Niagara DareDevils recorded the first win in the team's history as they defeated the Strong Island Sound by a final score of 153-98. The team's improvement since last week's hope opener was tremendous with eight DareDevils reaching double digits. Every player on Niagara's twelve-man roster was able to contribute to the score tally with Eric Walton's 25 points leading the pack.

Despite the score, Strong Island played a hard-fought game. The visiting squad's challenge was made all the more difficult because they played shorthanded due to flue and fatigue began to set in for the players available. As their defensive skills waned, the DareDevils took advantage to score 85 second half points. Eric Thompson led the sound with 28 points.

The DareDevils took advantage of their tired opponents all throughout the game by pressuring them with strong full court defense. Niagara forced 31 turnovers, several of which invoked the 3-D rule, further adding to Niagara's total.

Once the DareDevils secured a comfortable lead, they began to treat the fans to some exciting hoops. Leroy Hickerson stole the show on multiple occasions by transforming the game into a slam dunk contest. Eric Walton also had a few highlights of his own, including a jaw dropping dunk off an alley oop from Majestic Mapp and LB Abney played an aggressive second half, scoring 13 of his 19 points. The DareDevils play their next game on November 19th versus the Newark Express.
