Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-Chris Mueller had a hand in each of the Admirals goals, finishing the night with a goal and three assists, as Milwaukee took a 4-2 win over the Chicago Wolves Friday night in an Amtrak Rivalry Game and the home opener for the Ads. The win was also the first home victory for new head coach Kirk Muller.
The Admirals got on the board first with a power-play goal by Juuso Puustinen just 2:54 into the game. Mueller controlled on the goal line and then fed the puck backdoor through the slot to Puustinen for a one-timer and 1-0 Admirals lead.
Another power-play marker at the 13:01 mark of the opening period put the Ads up 2-0. Ryan Thang crashed the net in a scrum and just pushed the puck over the Chicago goal line.
Chicago cut the Milwaukee lead in half when former Admiral Darren Haydar picked up his first of the year with a power-play tally at 1:56 of the second to pull the Wolves to within one at 2-1.
.Mueller earned the game winner for the Admirals with another power-play goal and another scramble in front of the Chicago net. Mueller crashed the net with a backhand attempt on Wolves goalie Eddie Lack, who denied the attempt and sent the rebound out to Thang. Thang's shot was also denied, but Mueller was the first one to the puck and jammed it home.
Jordan Schroeder pulled the Wolves within one again with a bad-angle shot at 12:06 of the third that squeezed between the skate of Ads netminder Jeremy Smith and the left post, but that was as close as Chicago would get as Taylor Beck potted an empty-netter with 51 seconds remaining to seal the win.
In addition to Mueller, Ryan Ellis (2a), Thang (1g-1a), and Kyle Wilson (2a) each finished the night with two points, while Smith made 21 saves to earn his second win in as many starts.
The Admirals and Wolves renew the Amtrak Rivalry Saturday night when they face off at the All-State Arena at 7:00 pm. Milwaukee's next home game is Saturday, October 30th at 7:00 pm against Grand Rapids with a free post-game concert from country music star Craig Morgan.
