Admirals to Host Reading Program Kids

March 18, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI-Over 600 kids from five Milwaukee area elementary schools will be in attendance at today's Admirals game when they take on the Grand Rapids Griffins at 4:00 pm at the Bradley Center. The game is a conclusion of a reading program that the Admirals and Milwaukee Public Schools introduced this season entitled "Reading: The Ultimate Power Play," and was sponsored by Northwestern Mutual.

The kids earned a ticket to today's contest by reaching monthly reading goals set by the schools. In addition to the game ticket the kids also earned a special reading program hat. The five schools that participated in the program include Garland Elementary, Clement Avenue School, the French Immersion School, Fernwood Montessori School, and Lakeview Elementary in South Milwaukee.

The program, which ran from November through March, included special guest reading appearances by the Admirals players at each of the schools each month. In total, over 1,900 students participated in the program.
