
Admirals Set Sail on 2011-12 Season this Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. - After winning two of three preseason games against the St. John's IceCaps last week, the Norfolk Admirals will open the 2011-12 regular season this Friday and Saturday against the Charlotte Checkers at Norfolk Scope Arena.
The preseason slate took place in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador last week with contests against the St. John's IceCaps in three different venues. The Admirals defeated the IceCaps, 5-2, on Thursday night in Grand Falls-Windsor on the strength of five different goal scorers. The following night in Gander, the IceCaps turned the tables by scoring a pair of power play goals in the final three minutes to defeat the Admirals, 5-2. Yesterday in St. John's, Norfolk scored three power play goals to erase a one-goal deficit and defeat the IceCaps, 5-2.
Norfolk opens the 2011-12 regular season on Friday and Saturday nights against the Charlotte Checkers. The games will mark the first two of eight contests in the GEICO Challenge Cup. Friday's game features a Party on the Plaza from 5-7 p.m. Additionally, magnetic schedules will be handed out both nights courtesy of Michael and Son Services, Inc. Saturday's game also features a post-game skate.

ADMIRALS' LOG
- The Admirals have five wins, five regulation losses and one shootout loss (5-5-0-0-1) in season-opening contests since joining the American Hockey League in the 2000-01 season.
- This season will mark the sixth time in 12 AHL campaigns the Admirals will open the regular season at home. Norfolk has two wins and three regulation losses in those games (2-3-0-0-0).
- Norfolk has six wins, four regulation losses and one tie (6-4-1-0-0) all-time in its first home game of the regular season.
- Ten different players scored goals for the Admirals in the preseason, led by two goals apiece from Jeff Dimmen and Tyler Johnson.

PARTY ON THE PLAZA
The Admirals and Sinclair Communications will team up to put on the Party on the Plaza outside of Norfolk Scope Arena from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening. Come out and mingle with your fellow Admirals fans before the home opener! Live music will be provided by The River Boyz.
SKATE WITH THE ADMIRALS AFTER SATURDAY'S GAME
On Saturday, October 8, the Admirals will hold their first post-game skate of the season where fans can skate at Scope with their favorite Admirals following the game. A limited amount of skates will be available free of charge or fans may bring their own skates.
