HERSHEY, P.A. - The Binghamton Senators ended the preseason with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center on Monday night. Jacob Micflikier notched the game winner for the Bears at 1:37 of overtime.
Hershey's Keith Aucoin opened the scoring in the second period as he stripped the puck from the B-Sens' at the blue line, breaking in on goaltender Mike McKenna. After being taken down on the play, Aucoin would be awarded a penalty shot, of which he capitalized on to give Hershey a 1-0 advantage with 3:33 remaining in the period.
Derek Grant answered for the B-Sens just 1:21 later as he snapped off a quick shot that beat Braden Holtby glove side to tie the game at one apiece.
The B-Sens jumped to a 3-1 lead in the third period with a pair of quick goals. Andre Petersson's rising shot found the back of the Bears' net at 9:55. 30 seconds later, Jim O'Brien converted a Pat Cannone feed from behind the Hershey goal, beating Holtby five-hole from the left circle.
At 15:44 Andrew Carroll swung the momentum back in favor of the Bears as he batted the puck into the Binghamton net from mid-air to notch a shorthanded goal and pull his team within one, 3-2.
With 2:44 on the clock, former Binghamton Senator Ryan Potulny tied the game, 3-3, scoring with a man advantage. Aucoin earned the assist on the goal for his second point of the night.
With 23 seconds remaining in regulation, Grant would be sent to the penalty box on an elbowing call, giving the Bears a man-advantage that carried over into the overtime period. Just moments after the power play expired, Micflikier tallied the game winner to send the B-Sens home with the loss.
Hershey outshot Binghamton 43 to 14. McKenna earned third star honors, making 39 saves in the preseason finale.
The B-Sens will open their tenth anniversary season at home on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:05 p.m. against the Bears. 2011-12 full-season, half-season tickets, coupon books and other multi-game plans are on sale now.
