Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- The Milwaukee Admirals begin the home portion of their 35th professional season and 11th in the American Hockey League as they host their Amtrak rivals, the Chicago Wolves at the Bradley Center this Friday night at 7:00 pm. All fans in attendance will receive a 2011-2012 season magnet schedule courtesy of Old Orchard Juice and Pick n' Save.
"Just as in previous years, we have many fun events and promotions to go along with some thrilling hockey action" Admirals President Jon Greenberg said. "Fans can look forward to something special at every game."
Friday's game will begin with a somber moment as the team remembers three members of the Admirals family who passed away this summer: Erv Merar, Karlis Skrastins and Robert Dietrich. Merar, the original owner of the Admirals, passed away Aug. 15. Merar was an exceptional owner, with an acute business mind that began a long-lasting Admirals tradition. Former Admiral players, Skrastins and Dietrich, tragically lost their lives along with the rest of the Lokomotiv hockey team in a Russian plane crash this past September. Both men played two seasons with the Admirals, Skrastins played from 1998-2000 and Dietrich from 2008-2010. Throughout the upcoming season and playoffs the team will honor both players by wearing stickers with their names and initials on their helmets.
Also, Friday night's home game will be the first for newly appointed head coach, Kirk Muller. In last Saturday's season opener, Muller led the Admirals to a 4-1 victory over Peoria.
In addition, the U.S. Coast Guard will present the colors and Forest Park Middle School's choir and band will perform the National Anthem.
