Pirates to Host Fourth Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that they will be hosting their fourth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night, presented by Maine Medical Center, on Saturday, October 22 against the Providence Bruins at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

During the 7 p.m. game, Pirates players will once again show their support by wearing commemorative pink jerseys. In attendance at the game will be singer Joan Kennedy who will be performing the National Anthem. Kennedy is the lead vocalist in the song "I Will Be There", a song written for the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition, and is one of the performers included in "The PINK Album", a musical collection of Maine's most accomplished female singers and songwriters in support of the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition Support Service Fund.

Maine Medical Center is pleased to partner with the Pirates in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Breast Care Center at Maine Medical Center's Cancer Institute is a state-of-the-art, full-service facility, providing comprehensive breast health care. The Breast Care Center provides screening, early detection, diagnostic imaging services, specialist consultation for benign breast conditions and treatment of breast cancer. Patients are guided and supported through the diagnosis and treatment process by a clinical patient navigator. In the previous three seasons, the Pirates have raised more than $9,300 for breast cancer research in Maine.

Fans can join the fundraising effort by purchasing one of the 250 limited edition Portland Pirates Pink Packs for $59 dollars. Included in the package is one (1) special edition pink Portland Pirates T-Shirt with the option to purchase additional shirts, four (4) Main Deck Tickets, a special inclusion in the Pirates Daily Scroll gameday publication, and a mention on the Civic Center videoboard with a name, family name, or name of honor. Pirates will return to the Cumberland County Civic Center for their 2011-12 home opener during the first Saturday Night is Hockey Night in Portland game of the season, on Saturday, October 15th when the Manchester Monarchs visit in a 7 p.m. start. The Pirates and USA Hockey are proud to offer all USA Hockey Members, their families and friends the ability to buy discounted tickets to the game.
