December 2, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--Chris Mueller posted two goals and an assist and Kelsey Wilson chipped in with a pair of helpers as the Admirals posted a 6-3 victory over Claude Noel and the Manitoba Moose in the team's first home game since November 7.
Noel coached the Admirals from 2003-2007 and guided the club to the only professional championship in team history back in the 2003-04 campaign. He left the team to join the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL and then was hired as Manitoba's head coach in the off-season.
The Ads now have a four-game point streak (3-0-0-1) heading into Friday's game vs. Grand Rapids and have scored 11 goals in their past two games after mustering just five markers in their previous five games.
Jamie Lundmark scored the lone goal of the first period, a power-play tally at 3:18 that put the Admirals up 1-0. After the Ads dumped the puck deep in the Manitoba zone, Wilson dug the puck out of the corner over to Andreas Thuresson, who sent a pass across the crease to Lundmark. The Ads center was falling down but managed to lift the puck over the shoulder of Moose netminder Tyler Weiman.
The first half of the second period saw a flurry of action including five goals and a fight. Milwaukee got the first one, when Gabriel Bourque took a beautiful outlet pass from Jon Blum and roofed a backhand over Weimen just 47 seconds into the period.
Mueller made it 3-0 Ads at 5:16 of period with his ninth goal of the year. Mueller and Thuresson came into the Manitoba zone two-on-one and Mueller fired a shot from below the dot that Weimen got his leg pad on, but the rebound came right back to Mueller, who stuffed it home.
However just 19 second later Manitoba got on the board when former Admiral Jonas Andersson took the puck from behind the Milwaukee net and circled wide around the left face-off circle, into the high slot and fired a wrister that beat Ads goalie Mark Dekanich.
The Moose pulled within one a Jordan Schroeder knuckler that found its way under the arm of Dekanich at 6:53 of the period.
Milwaukee pumped the lead back up to two one a nice hustle play by Muller. Chasing the puck in the Manitoba zone, Mueller chipped it over to Linus Klasen, who was stationed at the right post and chipped over the outstretched pad of Weimen.
Manitoba was again able to pull within one, this time on a power-play goal by Eric Oberg with just under ten minutes to play in the game.
However that was as close as the Moose would get as Mueller was able to seal the game for Milwaukee with his second of the night on an empty-netter with 51 seconds to play. Mike Bartlett added another for good measure as he carried the puck into the Manitoba zone on a three-on-one and beat Wieman high-glove side for his second of the year at 19:39.
Mueller three points was just the third time this year that an Admiral has totaled that many. Milwaukee saw 12 different players find their way onto the score sheet, including Lundmark who had a goal and an assist.
Mark Dekanich turned aside 27 of 30 shots to collect his tenth win of the season.
The Admirals are back at the Bradley Center on Friday night when they play host to the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:00 pm, followed by a post-game concert with the Village People that is free with a game ticket.
