Admirals Defeat Sound Tigers

The Norfolk Admirals avenged Friday night's loss to defeat the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 6-3 on Saturday in the second of two straight games between the teams at Norfolk Scope. The Sound Tigers fell to 31-28-1-5 and remain one point behind Albany, which was idle on Saturday, in the battle for the East Division's fourth and final playoff spot. Norfolk improved to 45-18-5-1, a day after losing for just the sixth time at home this season, in front of a crowd of 5,055.

David Bolland had two goals and an assist and Troy Brouwer had a goal and two assists to lead the Admirals to victory.

Ken Magowan and Cam McCaffrey each scored their first Sound Tiger goals, with McCaffrey's being his first American Hockey League tally.

The Admirals took a 3-0 lead on goals by Pierre Parenteau, Brouwer and Carl Corazzini, respectively, in the first period during which they outshot the Sound Tigers 26-4. The Sound Tigers cut the deficit to 3-1 on their first shot of the second stanza when Frans Nielsen scored on the power play just 54 seconds into the middle period. Norfolk, however, scored twice on its next three shots with Bolland finding the net two times 58 seconds apart for a 5-1 cushion. The Sound Tigers got to within 5-2 when Magowan scored a short handed goal set up by Steve Regier who had a pair of assists. The Admirals regained their four-goal lead on Reed Low's fourth goal of the season for a 6-2 advantage after two periods of play. McCaffrey scored late in the third.

Norfolk outshot Bridgeport 50-24. Norfolk Goaltender Corey Crawford made 21 saves, Bridgeport's Billy Thompson stopped 28 of 34 shots through the first two periods and Bridgeport backup Michael Mole stopped each of the 16 third-period shots he faced.

The Sound Tigers were 1-for-5 on the power play and the Admirals went 2-for-7 on the man advantage.

The Sound Tigers travel to Philadelphia for a 5:05 p.m. face-off with the Phantoms on Sunday. They end their five-game road stretch Friday at Binghamton.
