Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY kicked off a five-game homestand Saturday night in style, defeating the Philadelphia Phantoms 5-2 at GIANT Center. The win was HERSHEY'S 40th of the season, and kept the BEARS within four points back of the front-running Norfolk Admirals in the East Division standings.

The BEARS broke on top in the game early, with a power play goal from Matt Hendricks. With HERSHEY up a man at five-on-four, Hendricks scored into the top right corner of the net against Philadelphia goaltender Martin Houle to give the BEARS a 1-0 lead. Philadelphia's Ryan Potulny tied the game at the 16:09 mark of the period with a tap in past BEARS backstop Maxime Daigneault. With a power play late in the first, Joey Tenute scored his 21st goal of the season with less than six seconds left in the frame. HERSHEY outshot the Phantoms 10-8 in the first 20 minutes, and took a 2-1 lead to the dressing room after one.

Jakub Klepis gave the BEARS a little insurance midway through the second period. A sharp wrist shot at 9:55 of the period from Louis Robitaille gave the BEARS a 3-1 lead midway through the game. Philadelphia would rally late in the second with the fifth goal of the season from Triston Grant. Grant's shot from low in the left circle pulled the Phantoms back within a goal before intermission. Into the third period, HERSHEY held the Phantoms to just six shots and scored twice to pull away. Klepis scored his second of the game at 15:01, and Quintin Laing scored his 13th of the season into an empty net from Klepis at 19:16.
