Binghamton Senators News Release

The Binghamton Senators jumped out to a 4-0 lead against the Portland Pirates and never looked back, as the club earned the 5-2 win over the Atlantic Division foe at the Arena on Saturday night. Rookie Kevin Saurette buried two markers, his first two AHL goals, to lead the Senators.

Arttu Luttinen scored Binghamton's first goal of the night, a wrist shot at 5:54 of the opening period. Luttinen took a centering feed from Neil Komadoski and snapped it past netminder Gerald Coleman for his 10th tally of the year.

Nine minutes later, Andrew Ebbett and Mike Sgroi teamed on a two-on-one break for the B-Sens' second marker. Sgroi skated up the right boards and tossed the puck to Ebbett, who was slashing down the center of the ice. Ebbett beat Coleman with a low wrister for his 20th tally of the season and his eighth goal in his last five games.

The Senator took the ice for the second period with a 2-0 lead, and quickly added to it. Rookie Kevin Saurette scored his first AHL goal when he collected a rebound off a JF David shot and buried it past Coleman.

Bobby Robins and Cory Pecker extended the Senators lead on a give-and-go play midway through the second period. Robins found Pecker skating along the left boards; Pecker took the pass then immediately fed it back to Robins. Robins skated in front of the crease and snapped the puck into the back of the net.

The Pirates added a goal at 12:44 of the last period to make it 4-1 before Saurette netted his second tally of the night. The rookie worked right-to-left across the crease, snapping another wrister for the Senators final tally of the night.

Kelly Guard held the Pirates scoreless through two periods before leaving with a leg injury. Guard stopped 26 Portland shots on the night. Jeff Glass had 13 saves in relief of Guard.

Andrew Ebbett extended his goal-scoring streak to five games (8+1=9), while JF David and Cory Pecker registered two assists on the night.

Binghamton travels to Hershey to take on the Bears tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. Catch all the action LIVE on Q107 FM (106.7 or 104.5), via webcast or B2 Networks streaming video cast at www.binghamtonsenators.com
