Admirals continue home stretch

OVERALL...The Admirals (37-18-3-4) picked up two of four points this week and lead the AHL's West Division by four points over the Chicago Wolves (35-19-5-2). The Admirals are 2-2-1 in the last five and 2-4-0-2 over the past eight contests.

THIS WEEK...

VS. HOUSTON... Milwaukee is 5-3 vs. the Aeros this season, including 2-1 at the Bradley Center. The Ads are 13-3-1-0 in the last 17 overall versus Houston and 6-2-1 in the last nine at the Bradley Center.

VS. CLEVELAND...The Ads won a 4-3 come-from-behind overtime decision in the only previous meeting with the Barons at the Gund Arena back on October 20th. Milwaukee is 8-3-2 lifetime vs. the Barons, including 4-0-2-0 at the Bradley Center.

LAST WEEKEND'S ACTION... Jordin Tootoo broke a scoreless tie at 7:51 of the third period and Finley stopped 38 shots leading the Ads to a 1-0 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Admirals bowed to the Utah Grizzlies, 4-2 at the Bradley Center on Friday night. Tootoo and Timofei Shishkanov supplied the Admirals firepower. The Admirals surrendered three power play goals in eight Utah chances.

SHUTOUT NUMBERS...The Ads have been shutout six times this season, one shy of the club record of seven, which was established during the 2001-02 season.

ONE GOAL GAMES...Thirty-one of the Admirals 62 games have been decided by one goal and the Ads are 16-8-3-4 in those contests. Thirteen games have finished 3-2 with the Admirals holding a record of 8-2-2-1 in 3-2 frays.

1-0...Sunday's 1-0 final was the Admirals 17th in franchise history and the fifth of the 2004-05 season. The Admirals are 7-9 with one shootout loss overall, including 2-3 this season.

TRANSACTIONS...The Admirals signed center Brendan Yarema. The 6'1", 210-pounder was recently released by Bridgeport after scoring 17 points (7g-10a) in 25 games. He played 2003-04 with the Chicago Wolves picking up 33 points (16g-17a) in 63 regular season games. Yarema has been a picture of consistency over his last six pro seasons scoring between 31 and 35 in each of those seasons. He has amassed 207 points, including 93 goals in 427 AHL and IHL games since 1996-97. The Ads have also recalled right wing Paul Brown from the Trenton (ECHL) Titans. Brown, 20, has 26 penalty minutes and is +2 in four games with the Admirals this season. The Predator's third round selection (89th overall) in the 2003 draft had six points (2g-4a) and 63 penalty minutes in 20 games with Trenton.

HOME COOKIN'...The Admirals are 2-1 in the first three games of a franchise record nine-game homestand. The previous longest homestand was eight-games, which extended from January 28th through February 15, 1998 and saw the Admirals post a 3-4-1 record. The next six and 9 of the next 11 games will be on Bradley Center ice where the Admirals are 18-8-1-1 this season. The Admirals won't play their next road game until they begin a two-game series in Cincinnati on March 25th and 26th.

OVERTIME/SHOOTOUT NUMBERS...Five of the Admirals last 11 games and three of the past eight home games have gone into overtime. The Ads have needed overtime 12 times this season and sport a 5-3 mark in games decided in an extra stanza. They are still looking for their first win after four straight shootout losses.

ONLY 18 LEFT...The Admirals' have 81 points (37-17-3-4) after 62 games compared to 80 (35-17-7-3) at the same point last year. On the road, the Ads had 44 points (19-9-3-3) after 34 road games last season compared to 43 points (19-10-2-3) this season. On home ice, Milwaukee's 18-8-1-1 this season compared to 16-9-3 after 28 home games in 2003-04. Last season, the Admirals were 9-1, including 4-0 at home, in games 61 through 70.

GAMACHE... Simon Gamache leads Admirals scorers and ranks third in the AHL with 70 points. His 47 assists rank fourth among AHL playmakers and his 14 power play goals also rank him among league leaders.

FINLEY...Brian Finley is third among AHL netminders with 28 victories and ranks 11th with a 2.19 goals against average. Finley is seven victories shy of the Admirals' team record of 35, which was established by Lindsay Middlebrook during the 1985-86 season. His five shutouts are the most in a season by an Admirals goaltender since Chris Mason had five during the 2000-01 season. He now has nine career Admirals shutouts, two shy of Mason's career franchise record.

TOOTOO... Jordin Tootoo enters the week with a modest two-game goal-scoring streak, including the game winner on Sunday versus Grand Rapids. The 22 year old, Churchill, Manitoba native now has 16 points (8g-8a) in 48 games with the Admirals.

UPSHALL...Scottie Upshall has scored in four of his last five contests producing five points (2g-3a) over that span. The 21-year old, Fort McMurray, Alberta native has 28 points, including 10 goals in 44 games this season.

DYNAMIC DEFENSEMEN DUO...Andrew Hutchinson leads AHL defensemen with 41 points and is third among league defensemen with 31 assists. Dan Hamhuis is second among AHL blueliners with 40 points, tied for third with 11 goals, tied for second with four game winners and second with eight power play tallies.

POWER PLAY...The Admirals lead the AHL with 68 power play goals and rank third in power play percentage completing 68 of 361 chances for a 18.8% completion rate. The Ads have just four power play tallies in 63 chances (6.3%) over the last 13 games.
