Adams Hits Walk-off Homer in 6-3 Carolina Victory

ZEBULON, N.C. - Luke Adams broke a 3-3 tie in the ninth with a three-run, walk-off home run while lifting the first-place Carolina Mudcats to a 6-3 victory versus the Delmarva Shorebirds on Saturday night at Five County Stadium. The victory clinched Carolina's fourth straight series win as it put Carolina up 4-1 in the six-game homestand.
The walk-off victory was Carolina's third of the season and their first since Hedbert Perez hit a walk-off homer to defeat Fayetteville on June 6 at Five County Stadium. The home run was also Adams' eleventh of the season, one shy of the team lead.
The Mudcats (27-14, 60-44) originally trailed 1-0 in the third after the Shorebirds (16-24, 44-61) took a 1-0 lead on a home run from Brayan Hernandez early in the game. Carolina then tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth when Lara drove in Kay-Lan Nicasia with a RBI single and with what was his second of three hits in the game.
Delmarva later took a 2-1 lead in the eighth when Yerlin Rodriguez allowed a run in on a wild pitch, but the Mudcats came right back with two in the last of the eighth on a sac fly from Tayden Hall and a RBI single from Jesus Chirinos.
The Mudcats were up 3-2 going into the ninth, but Rodriguez (W, 1-0) walked two and retired two before allowing a game-tying single to Delmarva's Adam Crampton. Delmarva had two men on for Crampton's hit, but only one scored as the Mudcats managed to get an out at the plate to end the inning. That clutch relay started with Nicasia in left and continued with Jadher Areinamo throwing home as Jose Sibrian applied the tag to end the inning.
With the game locked at 3-3, Dylan O'Rae then started the Carolina half of the ninth by reaching on an error before quickly making his way to third on a single from Lara. With two on, Adams then homered on the first pitch he saw to give Carolina the 6-3, walk-off victory.
Rodriguez ended up with the victory, but lost the late lead and allowed a run over an inning and 1/3. He also allowed one of two inherited runners to score when he first entered in the eighth.
Jose Chavez preceded Rodriguez and worked through two and 1/3 in relief of starter Logan Henderson. Chavez allowed just one run and worked around three walks in his appearance. Henderson pitched into the sixth while going five and 1/3 with one run, three hits and eight strikeouts.
Carolina will take its 4-1 series lead into Sunday's finale beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Five County Stadium. Right-hander Will Childers is scheduled to start for the first-place Mudcats.
