Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - Lane Adams led the Naturals offense as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a huge three-run home run as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (26-35, 66-65) defeated the Arkansas Travelers (32-30, 68-63) by the score of 7-2 on Sunday evening.
The Naturals struck first in the bottom half of the first inning as Ramon Torres walked to lead off the inning. After advancing to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Raul Mondesi, Jorge Bonifacio singled to left-center with one out to put runners at the corner before Torres eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 Naturals. The runs wouldn't stop there though as Alex Liddi walked, which set the stage for Adams who connected on a 1-1 pitch to launch a mammoth three-run shot, his 11th of the season, off of the roof of Bullpen Café in left field to make it 4-0. Zane Evans would then cap off a five run opening frame by reaching first base on an error by the Travelers' first baseman to score Bubba Starling, who had walked earlier in the inning to give Northwest Arkansas a 5-0 lead.
The Naturals early run support was more than enough for 2015 Texas League Post Season All Star, LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (10-4 2.95 ERA), as he became the first Northwest Arkansas' hurler to reach 10 wins on the year. The left-hander our of Humble, Texas went five strong while only giving up two runs on four hits while striking out three. LHP Sean Newcomb (2-1 2.61 ERA) took the loss for the Travelers as he only lasted three innings while giving up six runs, five earned, on four hits and five walks while striking out four. Tonight's game featured two of the best, if not the best, left-handers in the Texas League as the Dziedzic came in ranked second in the league in ERA and wins, while Newcomb was undefeated and ranked as the Angels' No. 1 prospect by MLB.com mid-season rankings.
After the early outburst by Northwest Arkansas, the Travelers cut the Naturals' lead to three runs in the top half of the second inning. The only blemish of the game by Dziedzic came in the form of Blake Gailen as he hit a two-run homer, his eighth of the season, into the Naturals' bullpen in right to make it 5-2. The Naturals responded in the bottom half of the inning by adding another run of their own when Alex Liddi singled to center field with two-outs to score Mondesi, who walked earlier in the inning to extend the lead to 6-2.
The Naturals would go on to add one more run in the bottom of the fourth and then the combination of Dziedzic, Matt Murray, and Kevin McCarthy would close it out from there as the two relievers combined for 4.0 scoreless innings of work and sealed the 7-2 win.
The Naturals will conclude the home portion of the 2015 regular season schedule against the Arkansas Travelers at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night. Tomorrow night is Unused Ticket Night by Ozarks Electric Cooperative featuring Dollar Hot Dogs by Tyson Foods and Indigo Sky Casino Baseball Bingo. In the home finale, RHP Luke Farrell (3-3, 3.12 ERA) will get the ball for Northwest Arkansas and he'll be opposed by RHP Michael Brady (7-5, 3.52 ERA) of the AA LA Angels of Anaheim. Tune in with the Voice of the Naturals, Benjamin Kelly, at 6:50 p.m. for the Indigo Sky Casino Pre-Game Show leading up to first pitch at 7:05 p.m. on the Naturals' flagship station KQSM 92.1 - FM, the Ticket.
