Aces Weekly Wrapsheet

November 22, 2004 - SPHL (SPHL)
Asheville Aces News Release

THE WEEK THAT WAS....

Friday November 19, 2004: Asheville Aces 5; Winston-Salem Polar Twins 3

The Aces came into this game riding a three game win streak and in hopes of avenging a disappointing 4-3 loss to the Polar Twins on October 30. The Aces were flying in this game, scoring four straight goals, including a pair from Dan Pszensczny and tallies from Peter Cermak and Chris Affinati, before Winston-Salem chopped the lead with three of their own. Janis Tomans, SPHL Sherwood Hockey Player of the Week last week, slammed the door shut on the Polar Twins with a goal at 9:14 of the 3rd period. Mark Scally got the win for the Aces. With the victory, the Aces pulled themselves into a tie for first place with Jacksonville.

Saturday November 20, 2004: Huntsville Havoc 5; Asheville Aces 2

Mike Degurse got a pair of goals as the Havoc defeat the Aces by the score of 5-2, ending the Aces four game win streak. Huntsville, who was idle on Friday, came into the Civic Center and controlled the game from start to finish. Huntsville got a pair of goals in the first period from Greg Snitkowsky and Aaron Lewis, 0:30 seconds apart before Peter Bournazakis cut the lead to 2-1. Mike Degurse scored the first of his two goals late in the 1st period to widen Huntsville's lead to 3-1. Martin Viazanica scored at the 6:48 mark to make the score 3-2, however, Huntsville responded with a pair of goals, Luke Phillips and Degurse with his second of the night.

THE WEEK UPCOMING...

The Aces (5-3, 10 points, 1st Place-tied) face what could be their toughest stretch of games to date; four games in four nights, beginning with a 7:30 tilt against the Winston-Salem Polar Twins on Wednesday, November 24, at the Civic Center. The team will take to the road on Thanksgiving to face the Knoxville Ice-Bears, then come back home to face the Fayetteville Fire-Antz on Friday. Saturday, the Aces go back on the road to do battle with the Macon Trax.

HOLIDAY MUSINGS...
