Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Chris Gobert's second period goal turned out to be the game-winner as Alaska failed to register more than six shots in any period in an eventual 3-2 loss in front of a season-best turnout of 6,293 Saturday at Sullivan Arena.

The Aces scored first for the third straight time in the series, which began with a split of two games in Boise and continued with a split of two more in Anchorage earlier this week. Charles Linglet found a wide-open Chris Lipsett at center ice, leading to a breakaway that Lipsett buried at 9:48 of the opening period. Dave Cornacchia tied the contest 1-1 seven minutes later with a wrist shot that slipped five-hole past Dan Murphy.

Zenon Konopka gave Idaho its first lead 34 seconds into the middle frame, as the Steelheads took advantage of a five-on-three power play opportunity. Chris Marinucci found Gobert on an odd-man rush at the 4:33 mark, and suddenly Idaho had a 3-1 lead.

Kimbi Daniels snapped a wrister through traffic that beat Steelheads goaltender Dan Ellis top shelf with 12:20 left in the second period, but the Aces failed to score the equalizer. Dave Csumrik hit a post in the latter stages of the third period but Alaska did not manage a serious threat over the last two minutes, even when Murphy left in favor of the extra attacker, and was outshot 31-17.

The Aces dropped to 2-4 in one-goal games (three of the four losses have come with more than 5,000 on hand at Sullivan Arena) and 9-7 overall, while Idaho has won five of its six games decided by one goal and inched one-half game ahead of Alaska at 10-7. The Aces begin a grueling, five-games-in-six-nights-in five-cities stretch Tuesday night in San Diego at 6:00 p.m. AST. All Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
