Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces, the 2014 Kelly Cup champions, have acquired the ECHL rights to defenseman Colten Hayes from the Missouri Mavericks in exchange for right wing Ross Ring-Jarvi, Aces head coach Rob Murray announced today.
Hayes, who signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League on July 30, has been officially assigned to the Aces from Chicago.
"Colten brings size, offensive capabilities and a mean streak that can play a big role in supplementing our blueline," said Murray. "He has continued to show progress in his development as a professional and it has taken notice at the American Hockey League level. Our intention continues with addressing needs that are projected to result in significant improvements for various areas of our group."
Hayes, 24, has skated in 171 career games as a professional with Missouri, Stockton, Fort Wayne, and Reading with 63 points (11g-52a) and 358 penalty minutes, along with a +32 rating. Last season, he suited up in 57 Central Hockey League games with Missouri, tallying 21 points (5g-16a), 100 penalty minutes and ranked third in the league with a career-high +31 rating. He also made his playoff debut and earned a goal and an assist in six postseason games.
This season, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound defenseman has two assists, a +1 rating and 27 penalty minutes in five ECHL games.
Hayes, who also skated in AHL training camp with Connecticut in 2012-13, suited up in 164 combined games with Drumheller and Okotoks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League and Salmon Arm and Langley of the British Columbia Hockey League with 92 points and 468 penalty minutes. He was tied for fifth and led Okotoks defensemen in scoring in 2010-11 with 54 points (12g-42a) in 55 games.
Ring-Jarvi has skated in two games with the Aces this season and earned 24 points in 51 games last season. He also added a goal in seven playoff games, en route to the Kelly Cup championship.
Hayes is scheduled to be available to make his Aces debut tomorrow, in a 7:15 p.m. (GCI/KFQD) home game at Sullivan Arena against the Bakersfield Condors.
