Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles (6-2-0-0) electrified the night with three goals in a 1:10 span during the second period to defeat the Idaho Steelheads (6-2-0-0) on Wednesday's Military Appreciation Night at the Budweiser Events Center.
With 5:50 left in the first period, Eagles forward Jonathan Parker one-timed a pass from line-mate Taylor Vause into a wide open net to beat Steelheads goalie Olivier Roy to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Eagles newly-acquired forward Nathan Moon scored his first goal in an Eagles uniform on a perfect feed from fellow Eagles forward Brock Nixon, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead 17:20 into the second period.
Vause tipped a pass, 40 seconds later, from Eagles forward Darryl Bootland to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. At the 18:30 mark of the second frame, Eagles forward Chris Knowlton flew down the right wing with fellow Eagles linemate Jordan Kwas, who sniped the puck past Roy, giving the Eagles the 4-0 advantage.
Eagles forward Greg Gardner netted his first goal of the season in his first game 1 minute into the third period on a rebound given up by Roy. Steelheads forward Branden Troock put his team on the board with 10:10 remaining in the contest on a two-on-one attempt. Eagles netminder Doug Carr was spectacular between the pipes, stopping 24 of Idaho's 25 shots to hold on to Colorado's 5-1 victory.
Thanks to season ticket holders and corporate partners, thousands of active military members, veterans and their families were able to attend tonight's game, free of charge.
