Academy: NYCFC U15 & U17 Teams Compete in GA Cup
April 12, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
New York City FC News Release
New York City Football Club's U15 and U17 teams have been participating in the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup this week.
The U15s were drawn alongside fellow MLS outfits Houston Dynamo and D.C. United, as well as Spanish giants Valencia. They began their tournament with a 0-0 tie against Houston before falling 5-4 on penalties. That was followed up by a 2-1 loss against D.C. United on Sunday afternoon.
A final game against Valencia awaited on Monday and the U15s finished on a high with an impressive 2-1 result. That saw them finish third in Group I and confirm their spot in the showcase where they will play FC Cincinnati, River Plate, and Charlotte FC.
Meanwhile, the U17s were drawn in Group E with Vancouver Whitecaps, Red Bulls, and CM Rayados. First up was a game against Vancouver that saw NYCFC emerge 2-1 winners before they built on that success with a 2-0 result against Red Bulls. Despite suffering a 1-0 defeat in their final game against Rayados the U17s were able to secure a place in the next stage of the competition where they will meet St Louis City SC.
We will continue to provide coverage as the tournament progresses.
