Abraham's Big Hit Gives Kinston 3-2 Win, Series from Myrtle Beach

Adam Abraham's bases loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Kinston a 3-2 win over Myrtle Beach, Thursday night at Historic Grainger Stadium. With the win, Kinston (20-18, 58-49) takes the three game series from the Pelicans.

Kinston trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Tyler Cannon started the comeback with a lead-off double courtesy of Myrtle Beach starting pitcher Chad Bell. Argenis Martinez put Kinston on the scoreboard with a two-out double, driving in Cannon. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Kinston made the comeback complete. With one out, Martinez got things started with a single. Delvi Cid followed with an infield single. Myrtle Beach then replaced reliever Trevor Hurley with Joseph Ortiz who then walked Jordan Casas on four pitches. With the bases full, Abraham connected with a single. The hit scored Martinez and Cid, giving Kinston a 3-2 lead. Abraham's team leading RBI total increased to 51.

Kinston got a great pitching performance from the bullpen, as Toru Murata and Preston Guilmet combined for 2 2/3 innings of no-hit ball. Murata (1-2) picked up his first win of the season, Guilmet got his 28th save in 29 attempts.

Mike Rayl made his home debut on the mound for Kinston and threw a great game after a tough start. Myrtle Beach started the game with three straight singles, going up 2-0 in the first inning. Rayl would settle down, allowing just one more hit in his final five innings of work. Rayl went six innings, giving up three hits and one run. He walked one and struck out six.

The K-Tribe welcomes the Salem Red Sox to town for the weekend. Game time 6:30 pm Friday night at Historic Grainger Stadium. Clayton Cook will take the mound for Kinston.
