ABBOTSFORD BC - The Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League (AHL) is excited to announce their 2010-11 regular season schedule, marking the 2nd year of play for the Heat and the 75th Anniversary Season of the American Hockey League.

The Heat will open their second campaign on the road as they will take on the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday, October 8 in Michigan. The Heat will continue their initial three game road trip with a game the following evening in Wisconsin versus the Milwaukee Admirals before wrapping up the trip with a Thanksgiving afternoon battle against the Toronto Marlies at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario.

Abbotsford will then open up their home schedule with a date versus the Stanley Cup Champions affiliate, as the Chicago BlackHawks affiliate, the Rockford Ice Hogs, drop the puck versus the Heat on Friday October 15th at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre. The Heat and the Hogs will have a rematch one night later on the 16th to wrap up the first of eight Heat home stands this season.

This season's schedule features matchups versus playoff opponents, division rivals and new opponents. Abbotsford will host the North Division Champions, the Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal Canadiens), four times late in the season, (Mar 18-19, Apr 4-5). The Heat will also face the Rochester Americans (Florida Panthers), whom the Heat defeated in a dramatic seven game series in the opening round of the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs. The Amerks will visit the Heat on October 25-26.

A Heat schedule wouldn't be complete without a pair of series versus the Vancouver Canucks affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. The two teams will square off on November 26 and 27th, then again in early January on the 3rd and 4th. Other divisional opponents include the Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs), (January 14 and 16, February 11 and 12), the Lake Erie Monsters, (Colorado Avalanche),(December 7 and 8) and the Grand Rapids Griffins, (Detroit Red Wings), (April 1 and 2).

Abbotsford will also welcome three new teams to the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. The Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins), the Adirondack Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers), and the Oklahoma City Barons (Edmonton Oilers) will all make their first visits to the AESC. The Barons and Heat will also engage in a `home' game in Calgary on Thursday, February 17th at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Abbotsford will change their start times for this year's home schedule. All games this season will begin at 7 pm, with the exception of two contests. The Heat will host the Texas Stars on New Year's Eve at 6:00 PM at the AESC, while the Toronto Marlies game to be broadcast on the CBC on Sunday, January 16th will begin at 11:00 AM PST.

All Heat games, home and away, will once again be broadcast on Country 107.1 FM. Dave Sheldon will once again host and call all the action while Craig MacEwen will provide analysis on select Heat home games.

Notes:

Abbotsford will play 13 games on Friday nights at home this season, their most on any night.

The Heat will have eight home stands and ten road trips this season. The longest home stand will be a ten game stretch in late December and early January. The Heat do have a ten game road trip away from the AESC in late January and early February, but because of the spacing of the dates, the Heat are able to come home in the middle of the trip, creating two five game road swings. The longest trip away from the AESC will be five games on four separate occasions.
